Art Decò

Art decò, as a unique movement, originated in Paris and quickly traveled the world as an ambassador of modernism and style. The Japanese too have embraced the movement and uniquely transformed it through the sensibilities of their rich art and craft traditions. Their art deco creations are vivid translations of memory and innovation, a visual testimony to the artistic explosion that launched Japan from its traditional art format into the modern era. The continued development of Japanese taste and craftsmanship (wakon-yosai) has survived into the 21st century alongside Japanese interest in traditional and modern Western culture (yokon-wasai).

Even in the Showa era 1926-1989 many artists were able to maintain the technical traditions of the past by working with many materials, capable of astonishing the generations of our time.
