A large Japanese ivory netsuke of a grazing horse standing in a typical attitude. The sculpture captures the essence of majesty and grace of this magnificent animal.

The horse is portrayed with its head bowed and one fore leg bent, creating an image of tranquility. The position of the horse’s body is rendered with great attention to detail, highlighting the rounded and fluid forms of the animal. The long tail gracefully flows over the horse’s back.

The himotoshi, the holes through which the cord was threaded to attach the netsuke to the kimono belt, are positioned above the horse’s tail.
