Exceptional wooden Hannya mask, one of the most iconic figures in Japanese Noh theater, elegantly positioned on a rectangular base that serves as a box and reveals a fascinating secret inside when you lift the mask: a hollow cavity shaped like an egg.

The object presents a deceptive image, as the observer might mistakenly believe that the lid is not the mask but rather the top of the rectangular box.

The details of the silk threads composing the mask’s eyes, protected by internally painted glass, give the mask an aura of intensity and depth. This particular artistic touch captures the essence of the Hannya character, a tormented and malevolent spiritual being.

But what truly makes this wooden box with the Hannya mask extraordinary is its excellent patina and the sheen that surrounds it, revealing expert and meticulous craftsmanship in carving. The finely crafted details, craftsmanship, and mastery in creating this work emerge in all their magnificence.
